Hawaii Pearl Farms | Keahole Point

Hawaii's Keahole Point and the Kaloko-Honokohau National Historical Park on the Kona and Kohala Coast is a breeding ground for the indigenous Hawaiian blacklip pearl oyster Pinctada margaritifera galtsoffi. The breeding grounds stretch from the Kaloko fish pond to the south, to the coastline north of the Kona International Airport. The airport's location was the site of a ancient fishpond that was consumed in the Hualalai volcano lava flow of 1801. The satellite image is 1 km north of the Kona International Airport.
