Ise-Shima Japan | Toba City & Mikimoto Pearl Island
Japan's (Mikimoto Pearl Island (formerly Ojima island) is located off the Shima Peninsula's Ise-Shima National Park, in the Bay of Toba. The Shima Peninsula's Pearl Island is in Mie prefecture, near Toba City. This region was one of the first in Japan for the culturing of pearls in the early 1900s, started by Kokichi Mikimoto of Toba city. The Pearl Museum commemorates Mr. Mikimoto and the pearl industry he gave birth to.
