Motobécane was founded by Charles Benoit and Abel Bardin, in 1922. The company built its first two-stroke powered motorcycle in 1923, and its first four-stroke motorcycle in 1933. The company went bankrupt in 1981, selling its assets to Yamaha who revived the marque as MBK. The name "Motobécane" is now used by a Taiwanese bicycle company who markets their products to America under Motobécane USA. To this day, MBK still manufactures mopeds for the European market. |
