Roadmaster All Terrain Blackhawk 2 Tow Bar for RVs
RV Tow Bar Overview
The 10,000 pound towing capacity motorhome mounted Roadmaster All Terrain Blackhawk 2 Tow Bar is one of the best tow bars on the market today. In addition to the 10,000 towing capacity capable of towing most SUV's and pick-up trucks, the All Terrain Blackhawk 2 features Roadmaster's non-binding Freedom latch which, when pulled, releases the tension caused by the tow car's weight exerted against the tow bar arms, thus making uncoupling a simple procedure at any angle, level or bind. No other tow bar makes towing this simple!
The Problem
With most tow bars, it is nearly impossible to uncouple the tow car from the motorhome if the car is not aligned directly behind the motorhome when attempting this procedure. If, for example, the motorhome has been turned such that the tow car is not positioned directly behind the motorhome, but is located at an angle, the arms of the tow bar will bind making it extremely difficult to unhitch in a tight situation.
The Solution
The Roadmaster All Terrain Blackhawk 2 Tow Bar eliminates the above problem by incorporating a uniquely designed Freedom Latch which, when engaged, releases the pressure or binding of the tow-bar arm caused by the weight of the tow vehicle pulling against it at an angle. This makes uncoupling the tow car at any angle or level an easy procedure. The Roadmaster Blackhawk All Terrain 2 is powder coated to make scratching it difficult and cleaning it quite easy.
The Blackhawk 2 tow-bar is mounted to the motorhome, which makes stowage simple at the rear of the coach and comes with a convenient black vinyl case that fits perfectly over it when the coach is parked keeping it clean from campsite dirt, moisture and dust. It also features a patented storage latch which allows it stay neatly in place at the rear of the coach automatically locking it into place. It releases by simply pulling the latch forward allowing it to swing free and ready to attach to the tow car.
Installation and Operation
The Roadmaster All Terrain Blackhawk 2 tow-bar requires the installation of a hitch assembly on the rear of the motorhome held in place by a standard heavy duty hitch pin and a removable bracket assembly attached to the front of the tow car. Both of these are bolted to the frames of both the coach and tow car and should be installed professionally.
Coupling and uncoupling the tow-bar is a simple procedure, but one that requires practice so that it is done correctly each and every time. The instructions are included and are very simple and easy to understand and tech support is always available (by phone or email) from Roadmaster should one have any questions. I find that it is best to concentrate and not be disturbed by others during the process of coupling and uncoupling the tow car to and from the coach. It is best to be methodical and diligent as each simple part of the process needs to be performed (and not forgotten or overlooked) otherwise very severe consequences may occur. Each coupling and shackle need to be attached properly to each other as per the directions (which are included). Once the process is completed, I always step back and check to be sure. After towing for a few miles, it is a good idea to get out and check the hitch assembly again.
Caution: Always consult with a professional RV mechanic, your vehicle owner's manual, and/or your authorized RV dealer BEFORE installation, to make sure this type of tow-bar is totally compatible with your RV/truck setup. Improper or inappropriate installation could cause serious injury or death.
