MotorHome Product Review
RV Sure Step - Illuminated RV Steps
RV Sure-Step Overview
After we got our motorhome we started traveling around and at various campsites I would notice other RVer's rigs had really neat lighted steps that appeared to light up when someone approached. I asked and found out that they were an after market product called RV Sure Steps. What a great idea!!
The Problem
It never fails that, at one time or another when approaching your RV at night, that you will inadvertently hit your shin on the front edge of your bottom step while trying to see your front door after dark........Ouch!
The Solution
The RV Sure Step features a motion sensitive optical eye that activates a blue colored light bar when approaching or exiting your RV after dark. The RV Sure Step also features a non-skid durable tread surface that (including the light bar) increases the the step size 12%. The RV Sure Step fits all RVs including Class A Motorcoaches, Class C's, 5th Wheels and Travel Trailers.
Installation and Operation
The installation can be easily accomplished by the do-it-yourselfer or can be done professionally at any RV service center. It is first necessary to align the RV Sure Step up to the front of your existing step and mark points at which to drill the 5 holes necessary to attach the RV Sure Step to the front of your existing step. Next, drill the holes into the front of your step. Next, place the RV Sure Step on top of your step with the holes in the RV Sure Step aligned with the holes that you just drilled. Then, attach the RV Sure Step to your existing step with the fittings and screws provided. Finally, attach the light bar to the front of the RV Sure Step on the fittings provided.
Now you are ready to put 6 AA batteries into the side of the light bar by first removing the end cover held in place with two small Phillips head screws. Note......it is advisable to put a little 'Corrosion X' on these small screws so that they won't rust and break off the next time that you replace the batteries, as this surface does get wet when it rains.
The operation is simply that at night, the steps will automatically light up when approaching from either outside of the RV or from the inside. This light will also go out after about 15 seconds if there is no further activity within the immediate range of the optical sensor.
