After purchasing a custom-ordered camper van from a small manufacturer named Home & Park Vehicles, he purchased the company, and Roadtrek Motorhomes Inc. was born. By the early 1980s, Roadtrek expanded into the US market, eventually becoming "the best selling North American class B motorhome" (source: roadtrek.com). Roadtrek's "170-Popular" model, which Roadtrek humorously refers to as the "Ultimate SUV, meaning "Seriously Useful Vehicle," is built on a Chevrolet Express 2500 van chassis. The numbers in the model name refer to the overall vehicle length – in this case, the 170 is 17' 0" in length. Roadtrek's "190-Popular" and "190-Versatile" models are constructed on around a Chevrolet Express 3500 extended van chassis. Their 210-Popular and 210-Versatile are also built on a Chevrolet Express extended van platform. Their modern-looking (euro-look) RS-Adventurous and SS-Agile models are constructed on a Mercedes-Benz platform, with the compact Roadtrek SS-Agile (SS stands for "Short Sprinter") being based on the Sprinter 2500 van, with a 144" wheelbase and 19 1/3 foot length. Roadtrek Motorhomes are manufactured in their 120,000 square foot facility in Kitchener, which produces approximately 35 vans per week, or around 1,700 per year. Roadtrek camper vans come with a 4-year or 48,000 mile (80,000 km) limited motorhome warranty (roadtrek.com). According to their website, in 2001, Roadtrek was the first RV manufacturer in North America to obtain registration to the international standard ISO9001:2000(E). I2000(E).
