RV Cooking | Gas BBQ Grill Comparison

Weber 'Q' Gas Grill - Portable Gas BBQ Grill

Weber 'Q' Gas Grill | Portable Gas BBQ Grill

Weber refers to their new Weber Q grill as a "grill hybrid" because it is capable of backyard grilling and yet, is compact enough to be considered a true "portable gas grill". Although the grill may be a bit underpowered for true "backyard grilling", it really shines when compared to other "portabe" grills. The Weber Q is very nice looking and features an ultra-light composite shell which explains the light weight. As a matter of fact, the cooking grate which is made of the typical cast iron coated with a porcelain-enamel finish weighs more than the rest of the grill.

The unique folding "tuck-away" trays make for a very compact design when stored. The folding tray tables have built-in tool holders. The Weber Q grill's light weight and compact design make this grill the ideal choice for RVing, camping or tailgating.

Using the Weber Q

Once pre-heated on high for a few minutes, the grill can be set to the medium gas setting to start grilling. The only serious limitation on grilling capacity would be the size of the propane tank. Weber claims "up to 1.5 hours of continuous grilling" using the standard 14.1 oz. propane cylinder which is sold separately, but you may want to consider purchasing a 10 or even 20 pound auxiliary propane cylinder for extended grilling. A gas hose adaptor will be required to attach an auxiliary propane cylinder.

Dispite its compact size, the Weber Q has a very large cooking area. The Weber Q is powerful enough to handle steak and chicken, as well the less demanding burgers, fish, hot dogs. The grill has an adequate electric starter, but this can be overwhelmed by strong wind. The grill has an easy to clean drip pan. The Weber Q grill has a "limited" 5-year warranty. The Weber Q grill earned Consumer Report's "top-pick" for 2005. The add-on portable cart is a must-have accessory if you buy the unit without the stand. The Q fits easily onto the sturdy cart and it puts the grill at the correct height for backyard grilling.

Grill Assembly

The Weber Q grill is very easy to assemble and totoal assembly time is under 5 minutes. Once removed from the box, you attach the lid handle with a couple of screws and attach the lid with a couple of cotter pins. Then you push on the burner-valve, and screw your propane cylinder on. Now you are ready to grill!
